VOIP Pre-Sales Engineer

Job Description:

My client, a growing provider of Unified IP Communications consulting and integration services has requested I identify for them a pre-sales engineer. The ideal candidate is someone who has a strong VOIP networking background and knows CISCO’s CallManager and Unity. This person doesn’t have to be a guru or super hands-on in this role as it is more involved in the architecture and understanding how the technology works along with having the business savvy to go in to potential clients and sell the solution rather than the specific technology. My client needs someone who can go in to a company, talk to the business units about the environment, the business process, business issues, etc and sell them the solution and how that will impact the business users.

My client is open and flexible to finding the right personaility which is someone who speaks well and would feel comfortable out in front of potential clients. They must have a feel for and passion for the technology with a business mindset.

Travel is minimal as they are very focused in the tri-state area. They do have a few clients who’s headquarters are outside of the tri-state area (Boston, Phil, St. Louis, DC) but the travel to these locations is maybe a couple times a year. They do trade shows and typically have about 3 or 4 a year that they attend and they are typically about 3 – 4 days long.


• Translate client’s business requirements into technical solutions.

• Assist Account Executives to develop responses to client proposals and requests.

• Meet with clients to understand their current technical environment, key business issues, and future technology requirements.

• Deliver technical and sales oriented presentations regarding product solutions.

• Develop and present technical designs to clients including network analysis, Visio diagrams, configurations, and design validations.

• Prepare cost estimates and bill of materials. Determine improvements by analyzing cost-benefit ratios of equipment, and applications in the customer environment.

• Coordinate new technology trials, pilots, demonstrations, and beta tests at client sites or in our offices.

• Keep updated on solutions, products, and services and teach the sales team and other engineers about new features.

• Analyze, review and determine the impact that new products and technologies will have on existing client networks.

• Provide technical support for clients and sales team. Act as the main technical advisor for client accounts. Build and maintain relationships with technical decision


• Develop and implement plans, verbal and written, to ensure clients have the technical tools and information required to be self-sufficient.


• Experience with Cisco Products (Call Manager/UNITY)

• Prior experience with VoIP / Unified Communications

• Excellent communication and presentation skills

• BA preferred
