Jr. Network Engineer
Job Description:
Responsible for the maintenance of network equipment such as switches, routers and firewalls, as well as working directly with the operation team to implement and diagnose a great variety of technical issues.
Roles/Responsibilities:
• Installation, administration, and troubleshooting of network related components while ensuring best practices are implemented.
• Maintain campus and remote office networks and provide support by troubleshooting problems and implementing an appropriate resolution.
• Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network design, network configuration, testing and evaluation.
• Respond to issues to evaluate and remedy identified problems.
• Evaluate, analyze and audit networking systems processes and equipment, and help develop and implement solutions to aid with the continuity of operations.
• Participate in the identification of vulnerabilities and their mitigation.
• Research, evaluate and recommend new technologies.
• Work on best practices for network monitoring, security improvements, uptime, change control, etc.
• Maintain effective communications with peers and end-users in support of assigned projects.
Requirements:
• Minimum of 1-2 years of network experience or a 4-year degree in a computer technical field.
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, and other networking protocols.
• Knowledge of and experience with local area technologies such as Ethernet, IP protocol, as well as the physical media (copper and fiber optic cabling).
• Experience in LAN protocol management to include address management and network protocol configuration (IP, NetBIOS, and other miscellaneous protocols).
• Knowledge of and experience with wide area technologies such as T1 and DS3.
• Experience with network operating system configuration, troubleshooting and upgrading of routing tables, ACL’s, interfaces and protocols.
• Knowledge and understanding of Multiplexers, bridging (source route, transparent, translational) technology.
• Knowledge of information security, hands-on experience with firewalls such as Juniper NetScreen.
• Working knowledge of Network General Sniffer, Wireshark and other protocol capture and decode analyzers and applications.
• Experience with configuration management and documentation, to include change process management and records management.
• Hands on experience configuring network monitoring tools - Nagios, HP OpenView, etc.
• Knowledge of and experience with VoIP and video conferencing.
